Negative Painting with Ruth Rodgers

Twelve PAC members participated in a 3 hour workshop on "negative painting" facilitated by Ruth Rodgers, before the opening of the 2010 Members' Show on Friday April 9th. Inspired by a video of the process by Ohio pastellist M. Katherine Hurley, the members created their own black & white paintings using black pastels and a variety of erasers. The exercise is designed to help artists review and practice the importance of a solid value structure, but as these results show, the procedure creates beautiful paintings in their own right!
