Evalynne McDougalL MPAC

Diversity of style, medium and subject best describes Ev’s approach to art. Although currently working primarily in pastel and acrylic, the subject itself often dictates both the medium and the style. “I have drawn and painted since early childhood, and won my first award (for drawing) at the age of seven. I especially like taking a moment in time, and transform it into a unique experience for the viewer… a life-still that allows for a different take on our world. For me, art is a ‘visual dialogue’ that allows me to transcend the need for words, but still convey complex moods and multiple meanings.” Ev first started painting, in oils, as a child. Some years later she switched to watercolour, then acrylic. In the early 2000s a friend talked her into taking a pastel workshop – The result was an epiphany: By then her main subject matter was animals and figures and she realized that pastels were the most versatile medium to catch the subtle nuances of both. Pastel became her medium of choice.
Ev is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, an Elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists, a Signature member of the Northwest Pastel Society, a Signature member of the Pastel Society of America, a Master Pastelist of Pastel Artists Canada, and a Distinguished member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast. Her work can be found in galleries and private collections throughout North America.

Elena Selitsky MPAC

Elena Selitsky is an Edmonton based self-taught artist. Her primary interest is the still life genre which offers endless possibilities for exploration of composition, rhythm and colour.
Elena’s attention is drawn to simple, day-to-day subjects, like morning coffee, a flower in a jar or a slice of fruit. Revealing the beauty found in simplicity is always one of her primary artistic goals.
Her painting style features free and bold strokes, creating emerging shapes and lost edges. The result is a very contemporary and minimalistic interpretation which celebrates a less is more aesthetic.
She enjoys working with both soft pastel and oil interchanging them to keep her skills in tune and the vision fresh.
Elena is an active member of Pastel Artists Canada and holds the Master Pastelist Status. Her work has been accepted into numerous national and international juried shows and can be found in private collections across Canada and abroad.
