Meet Our Jurors
Fred Fielding, MPAC-EP

I am a dentist by profession but have been painting seriously for 15 years.
I am self- taught through in person workshops and online study. I have been a member of Pastel Artists of Canada for many years earning Eminent Pastelist status. I also have Signature Status with Pastel Society of America and IAPS Master Circle.
My work is mostly focused on the landscape of Western New York near my home in Buffalo and I am able to paint and hang my work in my office. I work mainly from reference photos taken while on walks or travelling, focusing on composition and light that have the potential for expressive use of color.
Although I work on various papers with varying techniques, I enjoy using watercolor on white sanded paper to give me an abstract pattern of value and color on which to base the pastel painting, allowing the underpainting to show through where it enhances the painting, I feel that this combination gives me the most flexibility in achieving a unique feel to my work.

Artwork By Fred Fielding
Ingrid vanReenen, MPAC

Ingrid vanReenen is a Master Pastellist with Pastel Artists of Canada. She has long held a genuine appreciation for detail, and careful observation is central to her artwork. Her work often captures the subtle textures, expressions, and individual personalities of animals.
Living in the countryside in Ontario, Canada, Ingrid developed a deep connection with animals early in life, a bond that continues to shape her artistic practice. Following her studies in mathematics, science, aviation, and education, she explored basic photography before discovering the expressive potential of soft pastel and pastel pencil.
Ingrid’s animal portraits aim to go beyond simple likeness, focusing on the small details that make each subject unique. Through thoughtful use of colour, she brings her portraits to life. Her hope is that each piece, whether animal or otherwise, creates a lasting memory and invites viewers to reflect on the connections with the animals, people, places, or things that bring meaning to their lives.

Kathy Mann, MPAC

Painting days on location amid wind, bugs, etc. are the most exhilarating for this Alberta artist!
The nuances of light, color, temperature, and especially perspective are more easily caught painting from life, whether landscapes, still life, portraits. Light and shadow capture, challenge, inspire. Completion of a painting is from Kathy’s references and usually in home studio. Fascination with light has kept Kathy studying for years, reading art books, taking workshops, perusing galleries while traveling, ever learning…so much to learn!
Active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, certified forensic artist, Kathy holds Master Pastelist status with Pastel Artists.ca. Her paintings have shown in juried shows group and solo shows at the Calgary Stampede, Richeson Gallery in Wisconsin, numerous PAC and FCA shows and in Medicine Hat and across the prairies. Previously she taught pastel, acrylic and oil workshops. Currently she is represented by Art Room on 2nd Gallery in Medicine Hat.
