Full-Day Workshop

This workshop will focus on a step-by-step process to create a lifelike pastel painting of the animal of your choice.  “Getting it Right at the Beginning” to assess your photos and create accurate drawings is followed by in-depth pastel techniques and application to bring realism to your painting.

Material List

Participants are asked to bring easels if at all possible.

All participants are required to bring drop cloths.

  • Drawing materials, sketchbook, pencils, etc.
  • Pastels & Pastel Paper of your choice
  • Bring whatever you will need to work on the animal of your choice
  • Reference photos – we will cover how to select a good portrait photo, so if you have a bunch, bring them.

Miscellaneous Materials such as:

  • Hand towels for cleaning your fingers and your pastels
  • Tracing tissue is a valuable tool for protecting your pastel painting as well as doing overlay sketches of your drawings
  • Folder or portfolio for carrying your work
  • Drawing Board – foam core makes an excellent surface to tape your paper to as it lightweight, rigid and has a smooth cushioned surface. 2 pieces taped together make a great portfolio.
