Ruth will show and discuss a series of ‘Disney princess’ paintings in which she used a paper collage technique to complement and embellish her pastel figures. The series pokes a little fun at and questions the notion of ‘happily ever after’ that Disney princess movies so often promoted, especially in their early years, and showcases how to mix other media with pastel for a unique look. During the session, Ruth will demonstrate how to apply paper collage to a completed figure painting.

The series from which this session is drawn have been exhibited three times and have proven intriguing to many audiences. The works represent Ruth’s infrequent figure series in which she explores a common theme or subject over time and multiple works. The addition of collaged elements was an exploration inspired by Canadian artist Jean Pederson.
