I am inspired and energized by the beauty and diversity found in nature. By painting on location I can immerse myself in the natural environment, exploring it through close observation and recording my findings as a painting. My aim is to enable the viewer to join me in an enhanced awareness and appreciation of this beauty.
Gloria has painted pastel landscapes for over 25 years, most done on location (plein air). She is part of a group that paints outdoors weekly throughout the year. She has taken many courses and workshops in pastel, including studies at Dundas Valley School of Art, the Banff Centre, and PAC workshops.

Painting Plein Air
ICAN 2025 - Studio A West
Wednesday, May 28, 2025
9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Half-Day Workshop
Examine the benefits and challenges of painting the landscape directly from nature, working outdoors on site. Explore the various ways of using your outdoor work, from reference sketches to fully finished paintings. Consider ways to maximize the potential that working directly from nature can bring, and ways to minimize the distractions and discomforts that this sometimes entails. Discuss what equipment to take, what to leave in the studio, and how to adapt your gear to lighten the load when necessary. Then move outdoors on the site grounds and apply the ideas that have been discussed. Choose a site, select your subject of interest, and produce a small painting within the time and weather constraints of the day.
Pre-order your supplies from Studio Six or Wyndham Art Supplies at a discounted rate* and have them delivered to the conference! See Studio Six offer details. See Wyndham Art Supplies offer details.
