MPAC-EP, SCA
Whether working in oils or pastel, I enjoy a painterly approach. My work has been described as “loose realism with the touch of a colourist”.
My goal is to paint with unapologetic strokes maintaining the texture and energy of the pastels on the surface. I want viewers to be captured by the bold use of colour, then pulled through the subtle layers of details and textures that make the painting come alive.
I am always pushing the traditional boundaries of the medium, extending the frontiers both in subject matter and application. When you view my work, I want you to know that I emotionally connected with it and that I was present and vital in the moment.
Primarily working in soft pastels, Susan Typert is an award-winning artist who works from both her studio in Whitby and satellite studio in Consecon, Ontario. Susan holds MPAC-EP Master/Eminent Pastelist status with Pastel Artists of Canada and is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA).
Her love of pastels began in 2010 after a workshop with Master Pastellist Ruth Rodgers and has continued for well over a decade. A voracious student, Susan continues to experiment and learn through several workshops a year with a variety of artists working in pastels and oil painting mediums. Susan focuses her work between still life and portraiture finding that one informs the other.
Upcoming Workshops
Paint From Your Gut
ICAN 2025 – Studio A East
Thursday, May 29, 2025
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Full-Day Workshop
You understand value, colour and composition but still feel that your paintings lack punch? If you are looking to create more compelling paintings, while finding you own style, then come find out how to “paint from your gut”. In this full-day workshop, you will learn how to shed fear and use colour, mark-making and a variety of techniques to make more expressive paintings. Let’s bravely dust off those bold colours in your collection and put them to work creating powerful paintings. Uncover how you can captivate your audience and reel them in to focus on your painting. We will step out of comfort zones together, through timed exercises that are built to tap into your “inner artistic beast” and channel it into your painting. This fast and fun workshop will run you through a series of exercises that will open you up to new techniques. Group participation will help you determine when you’ve “Nailed It!” We will complete 8 – 10 experimental studies during this full-day session.
Pre-order your supplies from Studio Six or Wyndham Art Supplies at a discounted rate* and have them delivered to the conference! See Studio Six offer details. See Wyndham Art Supplies offer details.
