On my artistic journey in recent years, I've found that the richness and vibrancy of pastels best express my creative voice in capturing the moments, subjects, and moods that inspired me and that, I hope, resonate emotionally with viewers.

My interest in drawing and colour began at a tender age, oddly enough through ballet, where instead of learning pliés, my attention was more intent on capturing my teacher pirouetting about in her colored leotards. In my teens, I took private art lessons and later, during my professional career, I kept my interest in art alive with occasional painting courses.

Upon retirement, I began a journey to bring out the artist within through my preferred mediums – pastels, oils, and watercolor – pursuing courses and workshops to develop my skills and techniques. Early in this journey, I attended watercolour sketching, oil painting and pastel workshops with Sharon Fox Cranston, Shari Blaukopf, Numael Pulido, Steven Rosati, Karen Margulis, and Richard McKinley. Recently, however, I have discovered that my artistic voice is best expressed in the richness and vibrancy of pastel.

While I enjoy working in the quiet oasis of my studio, I treasure time spent painting plein- air or urban and travel sketching for connecting with the world around me. My travels, my city, my neighbourhood, the natural world around me, as well as both the extraordinary and mundane, inspire my work.

My process is simple. On location, I sketch, photograph, or paint a small colour study of the subject.  Back in studio, I evaluate how best to interpret and communicate my emotional connection with the subject; then I start developing the painting through a poetry of lines and a harmony of colours, lights, and shadows. My goal is to capture the intimacy of a moment, a subject, a mood that inspired me and that, I hope, resonates emotionally with as many viewers as possible.
